I feel so fortunate to have been able to write publish two books with big-name publishers.
My first book, “Better Each Day: 365 Expert Tips for a Healthier, Happier You,” was inspired by a decade’s worth of interviews for the magazine articles I wrote.
Over the years, I spoke with hundreds of experts, from MDs and PhDs to fitness trainers, sleep specialists, nutritionists, psychologists and more. Each conversation contained a surprising tip or novel solution which wouldn’t fit into the article I’d been assigned.
I collected these nuggets of wisdom in a notebook, and as it grew, I decided to turn it into a book. The book was released in late 2011 and received write-ups from magazines including Shape, Parade, and Martha Stewart Living.
Writing this book was a turning point not only in my career but also in my life: As I learned more about the soothing effects of nature, the nourishment of fresh veggies and herbs, and the importance of slowing down and savoring parts of each day, I made changes small and large that led to a happier and healthier life.
The second book, “Love Your Lower Body,” was a collaboration with Sadie Lincoln, founder of barre3. Barre3 is a workout with more than 80 locations in the U.S. Sadie had seen my first book and bought a copy for each studio; not long after I fell in love with barre3 and started teaching classes at the Portland studios. When the idea of a barre3 book came up, it seemed like the perfect partnership.
